When you were older/ Catherine Ryan Hyde.
Manhattan, September 11th 2001. Russell Ammiano is late for work at the World Trade Centre, right across the river from his apartment. He's dashing out the door when the phone rings. It is a neighbour back home in Kansas, informing him that his mother has died. As Russell tries to take in this devastating news he gazes out of his window at the twin towers, wondering how to tell his boss he needs a few days off. And as he watches, the first plane slices into the North Tower. He has just watched every one of his colleagues die. But Russell is unable to focus on this catastrophic event. He has to put aside his shock and grief and get out of Manhattan. Because back home is his mentally disabled older brother, Ben. And Ben is now all alone. A creature of habit, Ben is unable to deal with any small change to his daily routine. How will he cope with the loss of his mother? And how will Russell cope with Ben?
